About Welcome Pierre!: Welcome Pierre! is a celebration of Pierre L’Enfant’s arrival in Georgetown on March 9, 1791 to design the Federal City at the request of George Washington. His grid plan crossed by wide boulevards forms the underlying plan of modern-day DC. L’Enfant’s arrival time was unexpected and no one was there to greet him. Due to this oversight, reparations to L’Enfant have been made since 1989 with a festive civic celebration. Dumbarton House is the event’s ongoing host and is partnering with the Heurich House Museum this year.
