Uncrating and Installing Looking Glasses: Reinstalling Our Historic Rooms Series

April 20 @ 1:00 pm-2:00 pm

$10.00 - $20.00

Dumbarton House offers a chance to see preservation in action as we show visitors the process of storing and installing 18th & 19th century looking glasses in our historic interior. Following a major HVAC (heating, ventilation, and cooling) renovation and window restoration project, this behind-the-scenes tour offers the unique opportunity to learn and see the process and intricacies of installing objects in an historic house museum.

Visitors will spend part of the tour with our Curatorial and Collections team as they uncrate a Federal inlaid and parcel-gilt mahogany looking glass (c. 1790-1800), install a Plexiglas model mirror for interpretation of the parlor, and hang a Federal tri-part overmantel looking glass, circa 1800-1815, in the dining room.
