Setting the Table: Reinstalling Our Historic Rooms Series

May 11 @ 1:00 pm-2:00 pm

Event Navigation

Dumbarton House offers a behind-the-scenes tour highlighting the recreation of our historic dining room. Following a major HVAC (heating, ventilation, and cooling) renovation and window restoration project, this behind-the-scenes tour offers the unique opportunity to learn and see the process and intricacies of installing objects in a historic house museum. From the Federal mahogany dining table with D-ends to the linens and, finally, the ceramics, visitors will learn the challenges our curatorial and collections team faces as they set the table for our regular visitors. Learn about the process of choosing a table setting, how to ensure the safety of objects, and working with the objects in the collections.
