English Country Dance Class

Join English Country Dance in DC (ECD in DC) at Dumbarton House for twice monthly dance classes. ECD in DC provides regularly scheduled dance classes with practices two Sundays a month from 1:00pm – 3:00pm in the Bellevue ballroom of Dumbarton House.

The first class in 2017, held on June 18th, will serve as a welcome back for ECD in DC’s returning dancers and for those new to ECD in DC to learn more about the group and to get acquainted with the style of dancing. All are welcome to attend and no experience necessary, just the desire to have fun and dance!

English Country Dance is a social, folk dance form, which has earliest documented instances in the late 16th century and continues to be a presence in the 21st century. ECD in DC will practice dances that span the centuries, from Hit and Miss (1657) to Candles in the Dark (2007) and beyond. All are welcome to attend class and no experience (or partner) is necessary, just the desire to have fun and dance! Please wear non-slip, comfortable shoes (such as sneakers or dance shoes – please no flip-flops) to respect other’s and your own safety, as well as Dumbarton House’s ballroom floor.
