Smithsonian Museum Day
Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. As a participating museum, we are offering FREE entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket! Register for your ticket at https://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-2021/. Please bring a printed copy to Dumbarton House.
There may be a line depending on the number of people who attend the museum, but the line is typically short and quickly moving.
Self-guide our period rooms, which tell the story of Joseph Nourse, the first Register of the Treasury, who lived here from 1804-1813, along with the stories of the free, indentured, and enslaved laborers who took care of the house and worked the 8 acre farm. On our second floor, you will explore four exhibitions: Power in Preservation (featuring 10 women making strides in the historic preservation field and stories of the preservation of Dumbarton House), Made in DC (about how DC became the capital of the United States), Women of Vision (about the NSCDA, the women’s-run organization that owns Dumbarton House), and Dames of Dumbarton (about the various women who are part of our history here at Dumbarton House).
