Virtual Jane Austen Birthday Tea

Join Dumbarton House for a virtual tea in celebration of Jane Austen’s 245th Birthday! Our celebration will include preparation of tea snack together and a presentation by Carrie Bebris. A supply list will be sent out ahead of time and we will spend the first half of our tea making delicious finger sandwiches and cookies. Once we’re ready to sit down and enjoy, Carrie Bebris will give her hilarious and informative lecture, “Gallants, Rakes, and Dandies: A Field Guide to Regency Males.”

Please note this is a virtual program and is BYOB- bring your own brew! We recommend Dumbarton House’s Colonial Bohea or Young Hyson loose leaf teas, both available in our online gift shop.

Carrie Bebris, author of nine novels, is best known for her award-winning Mr. & Mrs. Darcy Mystery series. Reviewers praise her for capturing not only the spirit and humor of Jane Austen, but also the historical details of the Regency Era. The series includes Pride and Prescience (named one of the five best mysteries of the year by Library Journal) and North by Northanger (winner of the Daphne du Maurier Award). Her most recent mystery, The Suspicion at Sanditon, is based on Austen’s unfinished final manuscript, and takes Jane’s characters in a different (and more humorous) direction than Andrew Davies’s recent adaptation. Carrie has been a featured author at the Ohioana Book Festival, served on the faculty of the Antioch Writers Workshop, and was a 2016 writer-in-residence at Ragdale, a renowned interdisciplinary artists community. A life member and former regional coordinator of the Jane Austen Society of North America, she holds an M.A. in English and speaks nationally about Austen, Georgian social history, and writing.
