Scientific Name: Cydonia oblonga

Plant Characteristics: Quince is a small deciduous tree bearing a pome-type fruit which resembles a pear when ripe.

Plant Uses:

Culinary: Quince was grown for its fruit. Colonists and early Americans would plant one or two Quince trees on the edge of their orchards and vegetable plots. They were not grown in large quantities because they were especially susceptible to fire.
